Local SEO services tumbled today as Google suspended their Local Business Center and will not be taking new sign-ups until some time in 2010. Local business listings are those listings you would find in the Google search results that are displayed to the right of a local map of the area you are searching for. For instance if you searched for Mississauga maid services the Google search result page would have a map of Mississauga with local maid websites listed with contact information directly under the URL. Below is an example.

Google also said that in mid-December the local business ads will stop running.

Submitting websites to the Google Local Business Center was a very popular and necessary SEO service up until today but in the mean time Google says they will be using the data that was gathered during the trial period to make improvements to their online marketing offerings for small and local businesses. According to Greg Sterling at who spoke with a Google representative today, Google’s main intention is to evaluate the feedback and improve the product for it’s new release next year. That’s good news knowing that Google’s Local Business Center won’t be down for good.

The exciting part will be when we find out what the new enhancements and offerings will be. After the new launch of Google’s Local Business Center, SEO service providers who register businesses will definitely have to make sure the information is accurate. Let’s hope they know what they’re doing.

We do, so contact us for more information about your existing or future local business listing on Google and what we can do to prepare for the new launch in 2010.
